Each week I’ll bring you a mix of DFS plays that I like for cash and tournament games. I won’t be focusing too much on the elite plays such as Christian McCaffery, Lamar Jackson and Michael Thomas instead, I’ll look for value in matchups that have the potential to be high scoring and return good points to dollar ratio. If we can find that we can open up our lineups to be built better. Through the season I’ll also review my previous weeks plays so you can judge for yourself how good my takes are.

Week 5 Review
A good week for the column. I’m giving myself a great play for Kyle Allen. I know he left the game early with a concussion, but at the time he had 12pts, and at $4100 that was well on the way to returning a large dollar to points ratio. Matt Ryan stunk it up and has to go down as a bad play despite the matchup looking friendly. David Johnson and Kenyan Drake did just enough not to ruin your lineups and return okay value. Darrius Slayton and Marquise Brown did great, both returning big scores. At the tight end, I had a stinker. I wanted to believe in Herndon and Ian Thomas and both continued to not even return value on $3000 prices. They’re firmly off my list of plays till they show me something.
Plays so far:
Great plays: 14
Good plays: 17
Bad plays: 13
Week 6
Ryan Tannehill Vs Hou – $5900
A friendly matchup at home against the Texans poor defence. The Titans have impressed with their continued great use of play action. Derek Henry hasn’t got rolling like he is want to do and in the meantime, the passing game continues to impress those who thought last year might have been lightning in a bottle. The Texans have given up an average of 20.4 fantasy points to the QB position and with a whopping 54 point over/under, this game sets up well. I’ll be considering Tannehill stacks in a lot of spots.
Kirk Cousins Vs Atl – $6100
Normally I prefer quarterbacks with some rushing ability but no defence has been worse against the QB than the Atlanta Falcons. If Dalvin Cook is forced to miss this game through injury, Mattison will be a more than adequate replacement. That said, I will be surprised if Cousins doesn’t look to pick on a very weak secondary with both Thielen and Jefferson starting to get hot. The Vikings are favoured by 4.5 points and I don’t know many people expecting it to be that close. This game sets up well for stacks including Viking pass-catchers and running it back with Calvin Ridley.
Miles Gaskin Vs Jets – $5400
He plays the Jets. Is that enough? Okay… last week Jordan Howard was a healthy scratch allowing Gaskin to command an even bigger share of the role and he obliged with 20.1 DraftKings points. The Jets are weak against both rushing RB’s and pass-catching RB’s. Gaskin has proved his worth as a pass-catcher only failing to catch two of the twenty-five targets.
Antonio Gibson Vs NYG – $5500
It must hurt to be one of those people who spent the summer complaining about Gibson’s lack of running back work in college. Everything we have seen so far shows he has the ability and the coaches faith, to have a great season. The Giants have been woeful so far doing little on either side of the ball. Washington would be sensible to try and command the ground game and play this at their own pace. Gibson won’t make every lineup for me, but he’s a handy piece if you’re looking to free up cash elsewhere.
Kenny Golladay Vs Jax – $6200
The Lions haven’t proven a lot so far this season but with Golladay having missed time I’m prepared to accept they haven’t been able to play how they’d hoped. Coming off a bye they get a friendly matchup against the Jaguars. Favoured by 3, despite being on the road, this is a get right spot. The Jags have given up over 300 yards a game through the air. If Stafford chooses to pass we know Golladay will be the main target, having dominated targets since his return.
T.Y Hilton Vs Cin – $5000
The Colts are heavy favourites here at 7.5 points and the game might flow away from the passing game if the Colts jump to a lead early but Jonathan Taylor has come back to Earth a little after big early-season games and Phillip Rivers could do with a bounce-back performance. Hilton leads the team with 32 targets, with the next nearest being 21. Last week he put up season-high numbers in targets, catches and yards. He’s trending up.
Justin Jefferson Vs Atl – $6000
Maybe a little pricier than I’d like, but as mentioned earlier, this Atlanta defence is woeful. Giving up an average of 215 yards to receivers per week. The Vikings pass game is very much channelled through Thielen & Jefferson, so it makes a lot of sense for Jefferson to have the potential for a big week.
Evan Engram vs NYG – $4900
Engram showed signs of life last week after a disappointing start to the season. The Giants seem to be aware they need to utilise him more, giving him a play that went down as a rushing TD against the Cowboys. Washington has allowed big points to the TE position, with Andrews, Everett and Goedert all going off against them. If you can’t get up to the pricier options, I like this a lot.
